Mr. MacKenzie founded MacKenzie House, LLC in 1999 after a career in investment banking, real estate development, management and operations. Over the past 20 years, Don has led organizations that have owned or developed more than $1.5 billion of multifamily housing with 25,000 apartments and more than 20 million square feet. Since 1999, MacKenzie House and its affiliates have developed over 1,600 units of housing in five markets with a total building valuation in excess of $460,000,000.

At EQR, Don was instrumental in originating and expanding the company’s multifamily development capability to become one of the largest in the United States. Prior to his time at EQR, Don was Executive Vice President, Director of Operations and President of Property Management at Wellsford Residential Property Trust (“WRP”), also a public REIT. EQR acquired WRP in June of 1997 for $1 billion. WRP had 72 apartment communities in 13 cities in nine western states and its operational headquarters in Denver. Don also originated and supervised WRP’s development operations in Colorado, Arizona and Seattle, which resulted in over 2,000 apartments built.

Prior to moving WRP’s operations to Denver in 1993, Don headed WRP’s acquisitions effort from its headquarters in New York City. Previous to WRP, he was a real estate consultant at Wallace Associates (one of the major subcontractors to the FSLIC) and a financial analyst in mergers and acquisitions at Paine Webber. Prior to that he served in the Reagan Administration as a Political Analyst on the Soviet Desk of the State Department. Don is a graduate of Middlebury College, Phillips Academy (Andover) and Principia Upper School. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, the Urban Land Institute, and the National Trust for Historic Land Preservation. In Denver, Don is the Chairman of the Board of the Center for Work, Education & Employment (CWEE), serves on the Board of Directors of Colorado Capital Bank and is a past President of the Arapahoe Tennis Club. He is the Co-Champion of CLIMB, Inc. (Colorado Leaders, Interns, Mentors and Business), a summer internship program for students from Yale, Middlebury and other colleges.
